The Materials for Your Rose Rings

For both rose rings, there are only a few materials that you will need:

How to Make a Twisty Rose Ring

First, what you will want to do is cut the right amount of 20-gauge wire. To make a size 7 ring, I cut 14 inches of wire. You will want to cut slightly more or less compared to the size ring that you want to make.

Remember, if you are not sure how much wire to cut, it is always better to cut more wire than you think you will need. Would you rather have wire left over, or have to start all over because you didn’t cut enough?

***Note: Sometimes, while making wire rings on your mandrel, your ring may end up smaller than you wanted it to be. To prevent having a too-small ring, you may want to make your ring either a half size or a whole size bigger than you want it to be, but this is just something that you may have to experiment with.

Once you have your wire cut, you will want to wrap it around your mandrel until you have 3 loops.

Next, you will want to bring the strand of wire that going left, down and the one going right, up.

Coming from the right: down and coming from the left: up.

Now, you will bring the strand of wire that is going downwards counterclockwise up to meet the other one.

Once you have done that, you will twist the two strands of wire together, leaving about an inch and a half to two inches of wire left at the end.

Twist the two strands.

After you have twisted your strands into one, you will bring it counterclockwise around the center. It may help to place a finger in the center while you bring it around. (You can leave yours on the mandrel. I just took mine off to get a better picture because my camera wasn’t focusing.)

You will do the same thing again, bringing your twisted wire around the center of your rose ring, counterclockwise.

And again, stopping when the twisted part stops. Hopefully, yours looks like mine.

After you have done this, you will want to take your ring off of the mandrel. Next, bring the strand of wire closest to the right around the bottom of the ring so it is now pointing backward back along the right side of the rose.

Finish off your rose ring!

And lastly, you are going to wrap the two remaining strands of wire around the band part of the ring. I usually wrap the wire about three times around the band, but you can do more or less, depending on your preference. (Or how much wire you have left.)

And there you have it! One twisty rose ring! Hang around if you want to learn how to make another kind: the spiral rose ring!

The spiral rose ring is almost exactly the same to make as the twisty one, except you don’t twist together the two strands of wire before you wrap them around the center.

You need exactly the same materials as for the twisty rose ring.

Making your spiral rose ring!

The first step is exactly the same as it was for the twisty rose ring. You will wrap your wie around your ring mandrel at the desired size mark. You should wrap it so you see three loops.

3 loops.

Next, bring the strand of wire that is going left, down, and the strand of wire that is going right, bring that up.

I didn’t get a good picture of this step, so I used the picture from the twisty rose ring. It is the same thing.

Just like with the last ring, you are going to bring the downward facing strand of wire around to the upward facing one, counterclockwise.

Next, you will bring both strands of wire around the center, counterclockwise, in a complete circle. It may help if you place your finger in the center while you wrap the wire around.

Then, you are going to do the same thing! Bring both strands of wire in a complete circle, counterclockwise, around the center of your rose.

Now, you are going to bring the strand of wire that is on the left around the top of the rose, just like in the picture.

And lastly, you can wrap the strands of wire around the band of the ring, right next to the rose. I usually wrap it about 2 or 3 times around, but you can do more or less, depending on your preference. (Or how much wire you have left)
