How to Make an Easy Bead and Wire Ring

How to make a bead and wire ring

I absolutely LOVE being able to make my own jewelry, so today I decided that I would help others make their own, too! In this tutorial, I am going to show you how to make a beautiful bead and wire ring out of, you guessed it, a bead and wire! In just a few easy steps, too!

Alright, let’s get started!

Step 1. Gather your materials

Okay, there are 5 materials that you will need to make this ring.

materials for the bead and wire ring

Here is a list of all of the materials that you need:

1. 20-gauge Wire

For this ring, I used 20-gauge gold wire. You can use any color you want, though. I used approximately 12 inches of wire to make a size 7 ring. You may need slightly more or less depending on your ring size.

I found the same wire that I use on Amazon, so you can click the picture below if you wanna buy some. 🙂

2. Bead

For this ring, you can use really any sort of bead that you want. I recommend, though, that you use a round one that is at least 8mm. You can buy similar beads to the one that I used with the link below, although they are not exactly the same.

3. Ring Mandrel

To make sure that you make your ring the correct size, you will want a ring mandrel to form it around.

4. Chain Nose Pliers

For this project, you will need chain nose pliers. These aren’t the exact ones that I have, but they seem like they are actually nicer than mine.

5. Wire Cutters

Lastly, you will need wire cutters so that you can, of course, cut your 20-gauge wire.

Okay, now that you have all of your materials, it’s time to make the ring! Yay!

Step 2. Start making the ring

First, you will want to get your bead and your 12 inches of wire.

Now, you will string your bead on the wire so it is in the center.

Next, place it on the mandrel by the size that you are going to make so it looks like this:

Please note: Often when making wire rings on mandrels, your ring may shrink and become smaller than you intended it to be. This is why I think ahead and make my rings a size 8 when I only need a size 7. I advise you to do the same.

Now, you are going to wrap both ends of the wire around the mandrel. Basically, once you are sure that your ring looks like the picture above, you are going to make sure that the two ends of the wire are in the back and that they cross each other.

Then, you will bring them to the front. I hope that makes sense, this step is kind of hard to explain. Hopefully, the pictures below help.

Alright, once you have done that, you are going to wrap both ends of the wire around the bead. I usually make it so the piece of wire that is pointing right is now pointing left and vice versa. Again, look at the picture for clarification. Sorry, I guess I’m not the best at explaining some things.

Now you can take it off the mandrel!

Step 3. Finish your ring!!

Okay, now you are going to wrap the ends of your wire around the band of the ring on either side of the bead.

I usually wrap the wire around the band about 3-4 times, but you can do more or less, depending on your preference.

Make sure you wrap the wire on both sides. Hopefully your ring should look something like this now.

Now, trim the ends of the wire if you need to.

This is what it should look like once you have trimmed the wire.

Okay! We are almost done! How’s your ring going so far? I bet you’re doing amazing!!

Now, you are going to use your chain nose pliers (flat nose pliers would work for this, too) to make sure that the tips of the wire that you just trimmed are laying down nice and flat.

Hopefully, your ring should look like this now.

Aaaaaand you’re done! Woohoo! How does your ring look? Here’s what mine looks like:
