Hanging necklaces with words that say 5 of the Best Supplies for Making Beautiful Jewelry

Hello again! Welcome to my blog, Simplify the Sparkle! I’m Hailee, and today I want to share with you 5 of what I think are the best jewelry-making supplies! Let’s get started!

1. Jewelry Hammer

This jewelry hammer is one of my top 10 jewelry-making supplies.

First, we have a jewelry hammer! This jewelry hammer is truly a game-changer when it comes to making handmade wire jewelry! I don’t know if you have ever tried hammering your jewelry wire, but boy does it make a difference!

Hammering your wire can flatten it out (which looks really nice on some pieces) and even make the fibers in the wire stronger, making your piece more sturdy.

This hammer comes with 3 different heads: steel, brass, and nylon. I have found that the steel and brass heads are great for flattening the wire and the nylon is good for straightening the wire out if needed.

You can remove the heads from the hammer so that you can change them out with the third one, which can handily be stored on the bottom of the hammer. Bonus: It comes in a nice box that you can store it in! I absolutely love this hammer!

2. Steel Block

This steel block is one of my favorite jewelry-making supplies.

Of course, you can’t have a jewelry hammer without a steel block to go with it!

In order to use your hammer, it is important that you also have a steel block to hammer on. I really love this one! It is the same brand as the jewelry hammer, and you can buy it for a really good price!

The bottom of the block (the orange part) is a soft plastic, which helps the block not move as you hammer on it. It also reduces rebound when you hit it. And, just like the hammer, the steel block comes in a box that you can store it in!

3. Ring Mandrel

If you want to make rings, you are going to need a ring mandrel. This is the one to get!

This mandrel is so cheap, but it is such good quality! For US sizing, this mandrel has sizes 2-15. It even has little dashes to show half sizes!

It is so easy to use because of the little indents for each size. You can just wrap your wire around the indents!

I love this ring mandrel, and I think that you will, too!

4. Needle Nose Pliers

I know that pliers are kind of the obvious tool for jewelry-making, but believe me, these needle nose pliers are the bomb!

Besides the fact that they are super good pliers, they also have a really good wire cutter! Honestly, I use that wire cutter more than I use my actual real wire cutters.

Okay, and can we please take a moment to talk about how comfortable they are in your hand!? I mean, come one, these pliers seriously feel the best in my hand than any other pliers I have tried. Maybe it’s because of the unique shape of the pliers, or maybe it is just because they are so amazingly awesome. Who knows?

If you are looking to get some needle nose pliers, these are the ones to get!

5. Ring-Making Kit

Lastly, we have an amazing ring-making kit!

This was the very first thing that I bought when I wanted to start making rings! I speak from experience when I say that it is very beginner-friendly!

This kit comes with

  • 1 ring mandrel (the same mandrel that I talked about earlier)
  • 1 ring sizer gauge set
  • 1 ring sizer belt
  • 300 pieces of crystal beads
  • 5 rolls of jewelry wire (24 gauge, 5 colors)

Believe me when I say that you can make some really cute rings out of this kit! If you are a beginner who wants to start making rings, this is the kit for you!
